Background of the Study:
Digital transformation has revolutionized the field of international relations, with e-diplomacy emerging as a key practice in modern diplomatic engagements. In Lagos State, digital platforms have become essential for conducting diplomatic communication, engaging with global audiences, and facilitating rapid information exchange. This study investigates how e-diplomacy is implemented in Lagos State, focusing on the integration of social media, online conferencing, and digital information systems in diplomatic practice. It examines the benefits of digital transformation, such as increased transparency, efficiency, and public engagement, as well as challenges including cybersecurity threats, information overload, and digital divide issues. The research analyzes case studies of e-diplomatic initiatives, policy documents, and interviews with diplomatic practitioners to assess the impact of digital tools on traditional diplomatic processes. By exploring the evolution of e-diplomacy, this study aims to provide insights into how digital innovation is reshaping international relations and enhancing the effectiveness of diplomatic communication in a rapidly changing technological environment.
Statement of the problem:
Despite the rapid adoption of digital tools in diplomacy, Lagos State faces challenges in fully leveraging e-diplomacy due to technological constraints, cybersecurity concerns, and inconsistent digital strategies. These issues hinder the ability of diplomats to engage effectively with global audiences and manage complex international negotiations. This study seeks to identify these obstacles and propose solutions to optimize digital transformation in diplomatic practice.
